Fat is Good For You

"The best way to oil your skin is from the inside."

The man who revolutionized the way we think about fats and oils sits across the table from me and laughs when I call him The Fat Guru.

"People call me all kinds of names," he confesses and starts to rattle them off with ease."The Fat Man, The Omega Man and Dr. Fat."

But no matter what nickname people remember him by, Udo (pronounced oo-doe), is always remembered as the man who wrote the original book on fats and oils-literally. Udo`s original inspiration for his book began as a personal matter of life or death.

After being poisoned at work by cancer-causing pesticides, Udo began to research the link between cancers and fats in the hope of finding a nutritional healing program for himself.

"I knew that the poisons I had been exposed to were carcinogenic and that cancer often involves fats. I needed clear, accurate and factual information," says Udo.

Nearly six years worth of research on the subject of fats, health and nutrition yielded two obvious rewards for Udo. The first reward was the restoration of his own health, and the second was the creation of his book on fats and oils.

Over ten years ago, at the height of fat phobia, Udo Erasmus sounded the alarm with the international release of his best-selling book, Fats that Heal, Fats that Kill. While so-called experts and doctors insisted we replace butter (a naturally saturated fat) with margarine (a hydrogenated, artificially hardened vegetable oil), Udo warned that we had the fat thing all wrong. He was right. People are getting fatter and dying of heart disease in greater numbers than ever.

Not all fats are bad for you! In fact, some fats are an absolutely essential part of fighting major diseases and promoting good health these include omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids. Without these good fats as a regular part of our diets, we run a much higher risk of falling prey to the very diseases we hoped to avoid.

Only a couple of years ago, few people had ever heard of transfatty acids or free radicals. Today these scientific terms are becoming household words as reports on the inevitable chain of damage they wreak throughout the body is becoming clear.

Since the 1987 publication of his book, Udo has toured the world educating people on the importance of choosing the right fats and oils...

The Fat Guru of the health movement is anything but fat. His wrinkle-free skin and youthful physique belie his 56 years. He`s obviously following his own advice.
