America's fondness for fast foods, low fat foods, and fad diets has created a potentially lethal time bomb for the health of baby-boomers, says one of North America's leading nutritional researchers and authors.

Most degenerative conditions can be reversed by supplementing the diet with the fatty-acid-rich oils

In his book, Fats that Heal -- Fats that Kill, Dr. Udo Erasmus predicts that lack of essential fats and other nutrients in the foods American adults now consume will trigger a variety of life-threatening illnesses that, if not corrected, may result in premature death for seventy-five percent of individuals currently thirty-five to fifty years old.

"Forty million premature deaths from nutritional deficiencies may seem unbelievable," says Dr. Erasmus, "but the Surgeon General's 1988 publication stated sixty-eight percent of US deaths were diet-related, and that percentage is steadily climbing."

Dr. Erasmus reports eight out of ten baby boomers are getting too little of twenty-three of the forty-three essential minerals, vitamins, aminos, and fatty acids that must be present in the food supply for humans to sustain life.

"If not corrected, these deficiencies will snowball into a nationwide health crisis for the adult population," says Dr. Erasmus

Of the nutritional deficiencies that Dr. Erasmus identifies in his book, it's the lack of (or damage to) the essential fatty acids "omega 3" and "omega 6" he claims will create the most havoc with baby-boomer health. Lack of or wrong fats in the diet are linked to cardiovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes.

"Even though they're vital for human health, adequate amounts of 'omega 3' and 'omega 6' fats are not present in 'fast foods' -- and they're usually removed from the low fat foods we purchase at the grocery store," says Dr. Erasmus.

Dr. Erasmus says that Madison Avenue has created a tragic misconception about fats -- "low-fat is healthier." A recent Harvard University study found those who avoided saturated fats by using margarine instead of butter had twice as many heart attacks.

"Essential fatty acid deficiency has become the biggest and most dangerous nutritional deficiency of our time," says Dr. Erasmus.

For those who chide Dr. Erasmus for being a harbinger of dietary doom, he has encouraging news: most degenerative conditions can be reversed by supplementing the diet with the fatty-acid-rich oils he recommends in his four-hundred and fifty page book available in book stores or by calling 800-446-2110.
