Healthy Diets for Humans & Pets

by Doug Freeman and Michael Howell

Michael Howell and Douglas Freeman operate K9 Biscuit Company, a bakery and "nutrition centre" for dogs in Vancouver, British Columbia. K9 Biscuit Company is dedicated to producing the healthiest of dog treats and providing their customers with healthful products, including Udo's Choice Oil Blend and PetEssentials, to promote health and well-being.

Most of our customers comment on how shiny their dogs' coats become after they incorporate Udo's Choice Oil Blend and Pet Essentials into the diet. They typically explain how their dogs' energy levels and alertness skyrocket! We know these are outward indicators of the dog's health, and our customers find that this is a natural outcome of good nutrition.

When we established K9 Biscuit Company in the late 1990s, it was only after we had learned first-hand about nutritional healing. We certainly advocate an unprocessed, natural food diet for our dog, but as we talked to more and more dog owners, we realized that many people simply could not manage such a regime. With our busy lives the appeal of the convenience of commercially prepared food is undeniable.

For dogs whose diet consists mainly of processed dogfood, we strongly urge their owners to supplement with fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and nutritional supplements, including essential fatty acids found in Udo's Choice Oil Blend.

One of our dearest customers had been considering Udo's Choice Oil Blend for her own health. She had struggled with fibromyalgia for years. Finally, after learning that the blend would be beneficial for her dog as well, she incorporated it into her own diet as well as her dogs diet.
Kathleen's Labrador Retriever, Mariah, has a very sensitive stomach. The slightest change in diet would upset it. But Kath tried our treats and found that Mariah had no problem digesting them. In a less-successful attempt to fortify Mariah's diet, though, Kathleen had introduced salmon oil into Mariah's diet. The oil was recommended for nourishment, as well as for improving joint function. Mariah had injured both knees, and had endured cruciate ligament surgery on both her left and right knees in the summer of 2001. Unfortunately, the salmon oil did not sit well in her tender tummy.

We felt that the oils of flax, sunflower and sesame seeds found in Udo's Choice Oil Blend would be more likely to be tolerated than a fish oil. Kathleen started with just a few drops a day into Mariah's meals. The intake was slowly increased to a teaspoon per meal for the 70 pound black lab. The results were nothing short of remarkable. Mariah's chronic ear infections cleared up within two months. Within a few weeks, Mariah's coat developed a beautiful sheen and became more wavy over her back. Her eyes now sparkle, and she runs, jumps, and plays, completely free of knee pain.

In addition to the UDO's oil, Mariah is receives "cartrophen" injections from the vet every 3 months, to help prevent cartilage build-up, and she is also on a daily dose of glucosamine sulphate. The vet is always surprised at her level of recovery from the surgery, and her vitality reminds Kathleen of Mariah's puppyhood.

As for Kathleen, a combination of an improved diet, combined with UDO's Oil plus other supplements, and various therapies including physiotherapy and others have begun to relieve the sleep disorder and pain associated with her condition. She's feeling great, and ready to resume a normal life and many of the activities she had given up.
